I
Remember…
They
say time flies
And
it really flies when you’re having fun.
I
remember having fun
And
remembering is fun but not as much as having fun.
We
had fun when we loaded up in that station wagon
The
one with paneling on the sides
And
made a road trip
For
nothing more than to get ice cream.
It
took a long time
To
get to the middle of nowhere and that old country store
And
I got rocky road
Two
big dips that topped a cake cone with wrapping wrapped around it
We
would eat fast
Because
it was ice cream and it was hot as the dickens
And
those two do and don’t go well together.
When
it was really hot
The
ice cream didn't last long and would melt
Melt
right before your eyes.
We
would lap it up fast
as we could savoring every last drop
Sometimes
it would drop
To
the ground and you would realize that
That’s
just the way it is and nothing lasts forever while we’re here
And
you could stand there
Crying
over spilt milk or rocky road ice cream
Or
you could just
Take
the next lick and the next if there was one left.
Enjoy
what is
Not
what was or could have been.
I
remember climbing in and going
Back
home and the trip was longer than before
Since
the fun was over
Or
so we thought and so time it did what they say
It
stood still or came to a crawl
But
really not as much as it does now sometimes
Since
I remember and remembering is what you do
When
you’re all but though
And
you forget that when the cake cone
Is
gone and you’re left all alone and you remember
that
not only does time fly
It
also melts
Little
by little, second by second, moment by moment
It
melts and it is gone
Except
for what melts into what’s next.
Time
flies and ice cream melts
So live and eat fast
but not too…
